Swiggy has introduced a new ‘High Protein’ category on its platform to support healthier eating habits among users. This dedicated section aims to make it easier for people to find and order protein-rich meals from a wide range of restaurants. The category is now available in 30 cities, including major hubs like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and emerging cities such as Chandigarh and Nagpur.
Each dish in the High Protein section meets specific nutritional standards. These include at least 15 grams of protein per serving, a total calorie count of 700 or less, and a protein-to-calorie ratio of at least 10 per cent. This ensures users are choosing meals that are balanced and suitable for regular consumption. Commenting on the feature, Deepak Maloo, Vice President, Food Strategy, Customer Experience & New Initiatives, Swiggy said, “We believe that small, everyday choices shape long-term well-being. Proteins are an essential part of our daily intake. With the launch of the High Protein category, we aim to make high protein dishes more accessible to our users, in turn enabling better health and well-being.”
Users can find the new section by searching keywords like 'Protein' or 'Diet' on the app. The dishes are organised by protein content and source, such as paneer or soya, and restaurants display high-protein dishes at the top of their menus for easier access.
The launch comes in response to studies showing widespread protein deficiency in India. Reports reveal that over 70 percent of Indians don’t consume enough protein, with diets mainly based on staple grains. More than 1.8 million users tried the feature during its pilot phase, with Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi leading in high protein orders. The growing demand in smaller cities shows a broader interest in health-conscious eating. This new feature aims to help users make more informed food choices without compromising on taste or convenience.
