Bengaluru-based ride hailing platform Namma yatri has launched a new feature aimed at streamlining public mobility in Bengaluru by integrating metro ticket bookings and other modes of transport into one app.

The new feature, Namma Transit, will act as a personal transit assistant, offering a fully integrated journey by guiding users at every step in real time, from their doorstep to destination, the company said in a statement.

The feature will further allow Metro users to understand which station to head to, the platform and gate to use, the point of switching modes and track both Metro and auto in real time.

Namma Transit is now available for select users and will gradually be rolled out to all users over the next week, the statement added.

About two weeks ago, the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) gave their data access to Namma Yatri to access information such as routes, schedules and associated geographic data for metro and bus bookings.

The ride hailing startup has also released a whitepaper, “MadeForBLR: Namma Mobility Blueprint 2030”, that discusses the current scenario of commute in the metro city, along with public opinion surveys and how the city can be reimagined in another five years.

As per the report, in 2024, Bengaluru became the world’s third slowest city for travel, and it adds 2,000 vehicles on road every day. Also, 95% of the population that uses private vehicles in the city have shown eagerness to use the public transport, however, last-mile gaps and lack of integration remain key barriers.

With the seamless adoption of integrated mobility in Bengaluru, the report forecasts that the time spent in traffic and transport emissions would drop significantly.

Namma Yatri’s Journey So far

Founded in 2022, Namma Yatri was launched by Juspay in partnership with Nandan Nilekani’s BECKN Foundation and backed by Bengaluru’s Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Union (ARDU).

The mobility app’s auto-hailing services were first launched in Bengaluru and has since expanded to cities across India – including Chennai, Delhi, Kochi, Mysuru, Tumakuru and it was introduced as Yatri Saathi in Kolkata.

Reports also surfaced that the platform is eyeing to make its entry into the US market, where it was engaged in discussions with multiple American taxi unions, back in August 2024.

The ride hailing service revealed its plans to scale with launches in five to six new cities, last December.

The company, initially rolled out to offer exclusively auto-hailing services, is known to be one of the earliest adopters of the zero-commission model. It expanded to offer cab rides in April 2024, and further added auto and cab rentals to compete with the market leaders Uber and Ola, last year.
