New Delhi: Australia continued their dominant run in the Caribbean with a gritty three-wicket win over West Indies in the fourth T20I at Warner Park, Basseterre. It was a high-scoring thriller with the visitors successfully chasing down a challenging target of 206. They held their nerve in a rain-hit finale to go 4-0 up in the five-match series.

Cameron Green once again stood tall as he finished unbeaten on 55 and anchored the chase with poise after some shaky moments in the middle overs. Earlier, Josh Inglis provided the early momentum with a brisk 51 off just 28 balls as Australia chased down the target with one over to spare.

Inglis, Green set the tone for chase

Australia’s pursuit didn’t start smoothly as captain Mitch Marsh fell in the opening over. However, Inglis and Glenn Maxwell stitched a crucial 66-run partnership to swing the momentum back. Maxwell, continuing as an opener, hammering 47 from just 18 deliveries, displaying his usual flair before falling immediately after the drinks break.

Inglis brought up his second half-century of the series but departed soon after reaching the milestone. Australia looked in control at 129/3 before a brief hiccup saw them reduced to 134/5, courtesy of a double strike from West Indies’ young seamer Jediah Blades.

Green finishes the job, bowlers shine earlier

Green scored his third fifty of the series and was calm amidst the chaos. His composed innings saw him rotate strike efficiently and find timely boundaries. A 51-run stand with Aaron Hardie helped Australia regain control before Hardie holed out for 18. Despite a late run-out, Sean Abbott got the job done as rain began to pour over Warner Park.

Earlier in the day, West Indies put up 205/9, thanks to valuable cameos from Sherfane Rutherford (31), Rovman Powell (28), Romario Shepherd (28) and Jason Holder (26). Shai Hope, who hit a century in the previous game, managed just 10 this time.

Australia’s bowlers shared the load, with Adam Zampa (3/54), Bartlett (2/39), Abbott (2/61) and Hardie (2/24) all among the wickets.

Looking ahead

With this win, the Aussies extended their winning streak in the Caribbean to seven matches including the 3-0 Test series sweep. The final T20I of the series will be played on Tuesday in St. Kitts.
