IND vs Eng Test Series: Shubman Gill has made a special achievement in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy being played between India and England. Gill has become the fourth player to complete 700 in the Indo-England Test series. Prior to that, three players have scored 700 or more runs in the Test series between the two countries.
In India’s second innings in the Manchester Test, Shubman Gill completed 700 runs in the current India-England series as soon as he touched the 81-run figure. Along with this, he joined a special list with Graham Gooch, Joe Root and Yashasvi Jaiswal. England’s Gooch was the first batsman to score more than 700 runs in the India-England Test series and was set by Jaiswal last year for India to score more than 700 runs in a series against England.
However, Gill is the first Indian cricketer to score 700 runs in the Test series played in England. A look at four cricketers who scored 700+ runs in the Indo-England Test series:-
England veteran and former captain Graham Goach played three matches in the 1990 India-England Test series and scored a total of 752 runs with the help of a triple century, two centuries and two fifties. In the Lord’s Test of that series, Gooch scored a total of 456 runs (333 and 123), which is the world record of the highest runs by any batsman in a Test match.
Joe Route was the captain of the England team in the five-match Test series played against India on England soil in 2021-22 and scored a total of 737 runs with the help of four centuries and a half-century.
Yashasvi Jaiswal played all five matches of the 2024 Indo-England Test series and scored a total of 712 runs. In that series, Jaiswal scored two double centuries and three half -centuries and also received the Player of the Series Award.
Gill is the captain of the Indian team and he has scored 700 runs in his first captaincy Test series. Gill is the first Indian batsman to score 700 runs in a Test series played in England and now he also holds a record of being the first Asian batsman to score 700 runs in a Test series played in SENA countries.
