In an attempt to save and preserve this building, fans of the Burman family have now started an online petition, demanding that the house be converted into a museum. Located in 36/1 South and Park, this house used to be a pilgrimage site for music lovers, but now its condition is extremely pathetic. RD Burman’s uncle, Abhijeet Dasgupta, said, “We were promised to build a museum. We were told that a blue plaque would be installed. In 2021, he also changed the name of this street to music array. But nothing happened but symbolism.” He questioned, “If the Ministry of External Affairs can offer help in the renovation of a re-linked building in Maimsingh, then why can’t our own state protect this house filled with the history of music?”
The petition, which receives more than 7000 signatures in a week, wrote, “This house is not only made of brick and garage – it is the echo of melodies that shaped Indian music. Instead of disappearing over time, it should be converted into a vibrant museum, a cultural place that respects their talent and nurture the future talent.”
