Process of becoming panchayat secretary

The recruitment process of Panchayat Secretary is different in every state, but it is generally through the State Subordinate Services Selection Commission (SSSC) or Public Service Commission (PSC).
The selection process includes:

  • Written test
  • Interview (optional in some states)
  • Document verification

In the written examination, questions related to general knowledge, Hindi, mathematics, current affairs and rural development are usually asked.

Educational qualification

The candidate should have a graduation degree from a recognized university. Basic knowledge or diploma of computers is mandatory in some states.

Age limit

The minimum age of the candidate should be 18 years to become a panchayat secretary. At the same time, the maximum age limit is generally fixed 35 years, although it may vary slightly according to the state. Additionally, reserved sections such as SC, ST, OBC, Divyang etc. are provided with age relaxation as per government rules.

What is the salary of Panchayat Secretary?

Employees working on the post of Panchayat Secretary get attractive salary every month. The Basic Pay for this post is between ₹ 21,700 to ₹ 29,200, which is determined according to level 3 to 5. In addition, they are also given dearness allowance (DA), house rent allowance (HRA) and other government allowances. The total in-hand salary of the Panchayat Secretary can be around ₹ 28,000 to ₹ 38,000 per month, depending on the policies and appointment of the concerned state (contract or permanent).
