After the region was lashed with intense rainspells for over a week, a slight relief from heavy downpour is expected this week. Until Sunday, July 27, Mumbai and it's metropolitan regions were placed under Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall at a few places, however, starting from Monday the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has not sounded any weather alert. The districts of Mumbai, Thane and Palghar, however will continue to witness light to moderate rains as part of normal monsoon activity.

As per the local weather forecast for Mumbai city and suburbs for the next 48 hours, the skies will be generally cloudy with moderate spells of rain. The maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 31°C and 26°C, respectively.

Some districts in Maharashtra are however, placed under Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall such as Raigad, Ratnagiri, ghats of Pune & Satara, and districts in the Vidharbha region like Nagpur, Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur etc.

Due to early onset of monsoon this year, Mumbai has already received 45.70% of its average annual rainfall. The average rainfall Mumbai gets every year is 2207 mm. As of July 27 morning, the eastern suburbs has recieved highest rainfall with 1117.42 mm, followed by the western suburbs at 1032.25 mm and the city area with 876.29 mm of rainfall. 

With the heavy downpour at the catchment areas as well, in a relief to Mumbaikars, the seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai has reached upto 90% of its total capacity. On the same day last year the levels were 71.95% and in 2023 were mere 61.58%.
