News Desk. An important change has been made for electricity consumers in Bihar. South Bihar State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL) has issued a new guideline regarding electricity connection, according to which the family living in the same campus-whether they are brothers or other families-will not be able to take different electricity connections easily.

Why was this decision taken?

After the 125 units of free power scheme implemented by the state government, it was observed that many members of the same family were deliberately dividing the house into small parts and taking separate connections, so that they could all take advantage of this scheme. Due to this, the purpose of the scheme was being interrupted and its benefits were not reaching the real needy.

What are the new rules?

Now if a family wants two or more electricity connection in the same campus, then it will have to submit a copy of the certified partition from the civil court. As before, a light document received from the Panchayat or Revenue Department, or only family consent letter, will no longer be valid for this purpose.

Relief to old consumers

This new rule will only affect new electricity connections. Consumers who already have connections on different names in the same campus will not have any problem with this change.

What are the officials saying?

According to Pritam Raj, Junior Engineer of Sono Vidyut Zone, the objective of this step is to prevent misuse of the scheme and provide government benefits to the real beneficiaries. He also clarified that people were taking several connections by sharing the house nominally, which was affecting both the departmental records and the plan.
