Tanishk Bagchi reacts to reports of 'Saiyaara' title track being copied from One Direction and Jubin Nautiyal's songs: 'Didn't steal anything'
Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda ’s ‘Saiyaara’ has been making headlines right from the word go. The movie’s box office numbers to the crazy fan reaction videos from the theatres, everything about ‘Saiyaara’ is going viral. Not to forget, the title track, which is making the audience emotional and is ranking on the charts. But as they say, with fame comes controversy. ‘Saiyaara’ title track faced backlash for parts of the tune sounding similar to One Direction ’s 'Night Changes' and Jubin Nautiyal ’s 'Humnava Mere'. Defending the song and its composition, Tanishk Bachgi, in a recent interview, confessed that there can’t be similarities, but the song wasn’t stolen.

While speaking to India Today, Tanishk Bagchi, the man behind the title track of ‘Saiyaara’, said that people will always comment on one or the other thing, no matter what he does. “But ultimately, the song will go wherever it's destined to, and that's what's happening with Saiyaara too,” he added.
To put the reports at rest, he broke down the composition and mentioned, “As for the comparisons, if you look at the melody, the chords are the same. The A minor scale has just about 3-4 chords, but every melody has a different soul. That doesn't mean that anything was stolen.”
He added that even if he had been able to steal, it wouldn’t have been easy to make the song such a big hit.
He continued, "All said and done, we didn't steal anything. The similarities are fine, it can happen, but it's not like we did it on purpose. Idhar se utha ke udhar nahi kiya (we didn't pick and add anything). We worked on the emotion of the song, and that worked. That's the magic of the track 'Saiyaara'."
He concluded by highlighting the global success of the song. “There is no collaboration with foreign artists; everyone associated is home-grown, so that's a big achievement for me. I did have an intuition that this could go viral, but I never expected it to top global charts.”
He credited hard work and pure intent for the success of the track.
