Arshdeep Singh Set To Play 5th Test Vs England: Arshdeep Singh is all but confirmed to make his Indian Cricket Team Test debut in the fifth and final match against England. Reports suggest that his debut is imminent.
We are just days away from the fifth and final England vs India Test of the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The match will be played at The Oval in London and will commence on Thursday, July 31.
Before the start of the series, India picked eight pacers (excluding the withdrawn Harshit Rana). Of these, seven have played at least one match. Mohammad Siraj has played all the matches; Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah have missed one match each due to injury or workload management; Prasidh Krishna played three games before being dropped; Nitish Kumar Reddy played two matches before being injured; Shardul Thakur played the two games that Reddy missed; and Anshul Kambhoj made his Test debut in the most recent match of the series.
This only leaves Arshdeep Singh. In the first three matches, Prasidh Krishna was picked over him, seeing how he has prior Test experience and came into this series as the IPL 2025 Purple Cap winner.
When, for the fourth Test, Krishna was dropped, it was assumed that Arshdeep would take his spot. However, the 26-year-old suffered an injury during practice and hence missed out on the opportunity to make his debut in the format. The opportunity rather went to all-rounder Anshul Kambhoj, who failed to impress.
Now, ahead of the fifth and final Test match of the India vs England series, the Times of India has reported that Arshdeep Singh is all set to play in the last match of this series.
Arshdeep Singh has already played 63 T20Is and nine ODIs for India. He is a World Cup winner and a standout performer for the Punjab Kings in the IPL.

The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy stands at 2-1 after four Tests. The first match was a close one until the last inning, when England pulled ahead. Then, the second match was dominated by the Indian batters, with captain Shubman Gill especially having a record-breaking match. The third match at Lord’s was a close one, with India losing by 22 runs heartbreakingly.
In the most recent fourth Test, India was down and out on the final two days, but a heroic batting performance by the team dragged India to a draw, despite a brilliant all-round performance by English captain Ben Stokes.
Indian Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir has clarified that all the Indian pacers, barring the injured Nitish Kumar Reddy, are fit ahead of the final Test. And so it will really be the best Indian pace unit that the management thinks is best suited to win the Men in Blue the match.
The fifth England vs India Test match will be a crucial one for India, as the only result they can afford is a win, seeing they are already 2-1 down in the series.
