Delhi: England star fast bowler Gas Atkinson performed strongly against the Indian team in the fifth and last Test match of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. In this match being played at The Oval, London, he broke the back of India’s batting by taking 5 wickets in the first innings. This was the fourth of his Test career and the first five wickets against the Indian team. It was also the second best performance of his career.

Indian batting destroyed

After winning the toss, the Indian team started to bat first. Atkinson gave the first blow to India by dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal (2) on a total score of only 10 runs and opened his wicket account. After this, he also sent Dhruv Jurael (19), Washington Sundar (26), Mohammad Siraj (0) and the famous Krishna (0) to the pavilion.

He took 5 wickets for just 33 runs, throwing 8 maidens in 21.4 overs. Thanks to his brilliant bowling, the Indian team was reduced to only 224 runs in the first innings.

Atkinson has been constantly effective in Test career

Atkinson started his Test career against the West Indies in 2024. Since then, he has become an important member of England’s Test bowling unit. In 24 innings of 13 Tests played so far, he has taken a total of 60 wickets at an average of 21 and an economy rate of 3.60. During this time, he has done the work of taking five wickets four times. His best bowling performance has been 45 runs for 7 wickets.

Having shown in batting too

Along with bowling, Atkinson has also made a useful contribution in batting. He has scored 352 runs in 16 innings at an average of 23.47, which is a great performance for a bowler.

Karun Nair (57) scored the most runs for India. Apart from him, no other player could score a half -century.
