Every day, crores of people travel by train across the country. For these people, thousands of trains are run by the railways every day. Many rules have been set for the passengers during the journey in the train. One of these rules is also about luggage. People often think that they can carry as many bags as they want in the train. But this is not so. There are rules of the railways and it is necessary to follow them.

There is a fixed limit, if you exceed it, you may have to pay a fine. Many times the TTE starts questioning directly after seeing the luggage and if the luggage is more, then there can be trouble. Let us tell you how much luggage is allowed to be carried in the second class and when you may have to pay extra charge. Go on a journey only after knowing all the rules.

How much luggage can be carried in second class

If you are travelling in second class of train. Then you should know about the luggage limit in the train. Let us tell you that passengers travelling in second class can carry up to 35 kg luggage without any extra charge. On the other hand, if your luggage is more than 35 kg and up to 70 kg. Then you will have to pay extra charge. But let us tell you that if the weight is more than 70 kg.

Then you will have to send the luggage in the reserve luggage van. That too by booking it separately. Generally, no one weighs the luggage before boarding the train. But if the TTE gets suspicious or finds the luggage too much. Then a fine can be imposed. Therefore, it is better to check the weight of the luggage before the journey. So that there is no problem later.

How much can be the fine?

If you are carrying more than 35 kg luggage in second class and have not booked it in advance. Then you can be fined if caught. If the luggage weighs between 35 to 45 kg, a small charge will be levied. But if it is more than 45 kg, the fine can be quite high. This fine can be up to 6 times the rate charged on luggage.

Meaning if you had to pay Rs 100 for booking luggage, then if you are caught without booking, you may have to pay a fine of up to Rs 600. Many times the TTE directly inquires and immediately charges the fine. Therefore, check the weight of your bag before setting out on a journey.
