The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has launched a new FASTag annual pass for daily commuters in India, which will be available from August 15, 2025. Keep in mind that it is not necessary to take this annual pass. The existing FASTag system will continue as before. Those who do not want to take an annual pass can continue to make normal toll payments with their FASTag as before. However, before taking it, some important things have to be kept in mind, like who is eligible for it and what the conditions are. Let's know.

Who cannot take the FASTag annual pass?

You can apply for this pass afresh or use the existing FASTag. But there are some conditions for this, like the vehicle should be valid in the VAHAN database, FASTag should be affixed on the windshield of the vehicle, the registration number of the vehicle should not be in the blacklist, etc.

If only the chassis number is registered in a FASTag, then the annual pass will not be issued on it. For this, you need to update the registration number of the vehicle.

Which vehicles can get a FASTag annual pass?
This pass will be valid only for private non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans. FASTag will be verified with the VAHAN database before activating it. If a commercial vehicle uses it, then according to the ministry, that pass will be canceled immediately without any notice.

Where can the FASTag annual pass be used?
This pass will be valid only at the toll plazas of National Highway (NH) and National Expressway (NE). If you use it on a State Highway (SH) or Expressway toll operated by a state government or local body, then a separate user fee may be charged.

Can anyone else use my FASTag pass?

No. This pass is not transferable and will be valid only on the vehicle on which the FASTag is affixed and registered. If it is used on any other vehicle, the pass will be canceled immediately.

How long will the FASTag annual pass be valid?

Once the payment is confirmed (Rs 3,000 for the year 2025-26), the pass will usually be activated within two hours. The pass will allow private cars, jeeps, and vans to travel free on designated National Highway and National Expressway toll plazas for one year or 200 trips (whichever is completed earlier). Once the limit is reached, the pass will automatically convert into a normal FASTag.
