Yashasvi Jaiswal Career overview

Yashasvi Bhupendra Kumar Jaiswal was born in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, on December 28, 2001 and had three older siblings. At the age of 10, he made the challenging move to Mumbai to receive cricket training. His childhood struggles are a massive part of his lore. From living in the groundman’s tent at the famous Azad Maidan to selling Panipuri to make ends meet.

It was at the age of 13 that he first made waves in the Mumbai cricket scene. He would soon make it to the India under-16 squad and would go on to represent the country at the U-19 level. In the 2020 under-19 World Cup, he would end up as the tournament’s top scorer as his team finished as the runner-up.

That very year, the Rajasthan Royals picked him up in the IPL auction, but he played only three matches that season. By this time, Jaiswal had become a regular part of the Mumbai domestic side, where he did well across formats, especially dominating in List-A cricket.

Yashasvi Jaiswal grew into a regular starter for the Royals over the next two seasons. But his performance in the 2023 campaign was what brought him into the limelight. That season, he scored 625 runs in 14 matches at an average of 48 and a strike rate of 163. His performances that season propelled him towards an Indian Cricket Team debut.

He made his national team debut in a Test against the West Indies in June of that year, scoring 171 runs while opening on his debut, the third-highest score for a Test debutant for India. He would make his T20I debut on the same tour and impressed.

Despite still being new to the national team setup, Yashasvi Jaiswal would have a terrific 2024, which started with a five-match Test series against England. Yashasvi would score a mind-boggling 712 runs in five matches in that series, even making double-hundreds in consecutive matches. In 15 Tests that year, Jaiswal scored a whopping 1478 runs.

In 2024, Jaiswal was even a part of the Indian Cricket Team for the 2024 T20 World Cup, the team that won the World Cup for India after 13 years. But he did not play a single match in the competition. Later in the year, he was even India’s highest run scorer in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, making 391 runs in five games.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has emerged as an explosive opener across all formats. He even made his ODI debut in 2025. Seen as a batting successor to Rohit Sharma, Jaiswal has picked up the approach of scoring quick runs, whatever the format may be. He is even a crucial player for the Rajasthan Royals, arguably their most valuable player.
