Curious why Britt Westbourne’s name is trending despite her on-screen death in 2023? Kelly Thiebaud shocked fans with her surprise return to General Hospitalraising questions about how Britt survived and what it means for Jason.
Here’s what the head writers revealed, how Jason fits into her comeback, and what’s next for both characters.
Kelly Thiebaud’s return as Britt Westbourne has revived her unfinished storyline with Jason Morgan. In a Soap Opera Digest exclusive, General Hospital co-head writers Chris Van Etten and Elizabeth Korte discussed Britt’s return. They revealed Jason reenters her life despite her presumed 2023 death.
Jason spotted a woman in Paris resembling Britt and believed she was hiding because of her Huntington’s diagnosis. He told Sonny, “I intend to honor her choice.” However, the writers confirmed that his decision won’t last. “Jason might have been willing to let Britt be,” they said, “but events elsewhere on the canvas prompt a third party to step in and counsel Jason to seek her out.” They also warned that reconnecting with Britt could endanger “one person, in particular, who is very close to him.”
Van Etten and Korte explained why the Britt-Jason dynamic resonated with fans: “Britt does not buy into the Jason myth,” while Jason “has seen the vulnerability beneath Britt’s hard and brittle shell.” They added, “Proximity to Jason compels Britt to do better (even if it drives her crazy); and proximity to Britt gives Jason a migraine. But the pain must feel good, because he can’t stay away.”
Britt’s return also connects to the recent storyline where Rocco discovers she stole the embryo used to conceive him. This revelation has escalated tensions between Brook Lynn and Lulu and sparked a series of consequences. The writers said this plot “dovetailed perfectly with Britt’s return” and will affect multiple characters going forward.
As for how Britt is alive, they haven’t disclosed details but noted, “Bringing someone back from the dead is always dicey,” and her parentage — being the daughter of Faison and Obrecht — makes anything possible.
