Sally Nugent has hinted at the reason behind her recent absence from BBC Breakfast with a flurry of social media updates, following a three-day no-show.

The seasoned journalist, who usually presents BBC Breakfast from Monday to Wednesday alongside Jon Kay, was notably absent this week, with Luxmy Gopal stepping in for her.

While there had been no on-air explanation for Sally's disappearance and she hadn't directly commented on it, fans were left pondering her whereabouts.

But on Tuesday evening (5 August), the beloved TV presenter shared glimpses of her birthday festivities on social media, seemingly shedding light onher off-screen time.

Celebrating her 54th birthday, Sally took to Instagram Stories to post well-wishes from friends and a snap of herself enjoying celebratory drinks, donning a chic white mini dress and large sunglasses, simply captioned: "Pink wine".

Another image captured Sally gleefully unwrapping gifts and cards, smiling broadly for the camera, reports the Express.

She also shared a glimpse of a humorous birthday card from her BBC colleague Jon, which playfully teased about her age.

Jon himself paid homage to Sally on his social media, affectionately posting: "Not only is 5th August International Dolly Parton Day... it's also International Sally Nugent Day.

"Happy Birthday to my brilliant, clever, kind and funny friend xx #bbcbreakfast #birthday".

BBC Breakfast viewers were swift to share their thoughts on the message, showering Sally and Jon with compliments. One viewer expressed: "Love you two on morning news," while another chimed in: "What a team! Happy birthday Sally x."

Another fan remarked: "You are a great team on @bbcbreakfast!" and a fourth admirer of the show added: "My favourite morning news presenters!" with yet another dubbing Jon and Sally "the best".

The pair took over presenting duties for three episodes weekly on BBC Breakfast in 2022 after Dan Walker's departure. Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty take the helm from Thursday to Saturday, with a rotation of presenters hosting Sunday's edition.
