AIADMK's Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) promised to restart the party's flagship free laptop scheme that was halted by the DMK government, only for Chief Minister MK Stalin to follow it up with a similar promise of his own a few hours later.

Speaking in Tenkasi, EPS hit out at the DMK government for halting the laptop scheme that was launched by former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in 2011.
"The ADMK introduced laptops for students, but the DMK government stopped it. If ADMK comes back to power with your votes, the laptop scheme that was halted will be restarted," EPS said. The scheme was originally launched in 2011 under former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
Following EPS's remarks, Chief Minister MK Stalin announced that free laptops would be given to 20 lakh college students. "Laptops will be given to 20 lakh college students," he said. Stalin also said the scheme is aimed at developing education and art in Tamil Nadu.
Though Stalin had already announced a Rs 2,000 crore allocation for the free laptop scheme in the Assembly earlier this year in March, the distribution is yet to begin.
Reacting to EPS's promise of laptops, DMK senior leader TKS Elangovan said, "This won't help them win. Damage done by AIADMK is much more. They brought in NEET which affected many students. They committed suicide because of NEET."
