When asked whether 'Tanvi the Great' could have performed better if it had not been released alongside 'Saiyaara', Kher responded honestly. He explained that for him, the definition of success is not limited to money.
"Money is not my criterion," he said. "Success is also about respect. After 50 years, people still talk about films like 'Mughal-e-Azam' or 'Pyaasa'. I'm not comparing my film with these classics, but I believe 'Tanvi the Great' is successful in its own right. Maybe not according to everyone, but it is to me."
Released on July 18, 2025, 'Tanvi the Great' is a directorial venture by Anupam Kher, starring an ensemble cast that includes Shubhangi Dutt, Iain Glen, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami, Pallavi Joshi, Karan Tacker, and Nassar, among others.
The film tells a unique story, and despite its clash with 'Saiyaara', Kher holds the film in high regard, pointing out that success isn't just about box office collections but the respect a film earns.
On the same day, another big release, 'Saiyaara', hit theaters. Directed by Mohit Suri, 'Saiyaara' was a romantic film that marked the debut of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. The film was a massive commercial success, earning Rs 503 crores worldwide. This made it the second-highest-grossing Hindi film of the year and the highest-grossing Indian romantic film of 2025.
However, despite 'Saiyaara"s overwhelming success, Kher remains confident in the achievements of 'Tanvi the Great'.
