Mitch Marsh has confirmed that he and Travis Head will remain as Australia’s T20I openers until the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026.

Australia secured a dominant 5-0 victory in the T20I series of the West Indies tour. They will welcome back several familiar faces, including Head, for their upcoming South Africa tour of Australia 2025.

With the duo make an exceptional pair in the ODI format, Mitch Marsh and Travis Head is yet to open together in T20Is.

They have accumulated 282 runs in just five innings at an impressive average of 70.50. Overall the duo has combined for 504 runs across 14 innings at an average of 38.67, including one century and three half century partnership.

Mitchell Marsh has moved to No.3 spot ahead of 2021 T20 World Cup and has scored 185 runs in five matches and was named Player of the match in the final as Australia lifted the trophy for the first time.

Marsh was the captain of the Australia team in 2024 T20I World Cup where the side were knocked out in the Super Eights.

The 33 year old has retained his opening spot in all five games against West Indies last month, despite a modest return of 81 runs from those games.

After David Warner’s retirement, Australia has experimented with several openers, including Jake Fraser-McGurk, Glenn Maxwell, and Matt Short.

Mitchell Marsh has addressed the batting position of big hitter Tim David, whose blistering 37-ball century in the third T20I against West Indies, which is the fastest by an Australian.

“We’ve spoken about it. We saw that in the Caribbean, that he came in earlier than he would normally. His skill set is made for that. The more balls he faces, hopefully the more games he wins us,” said Mitch Marsh.

The tour begins with T20I series and the first match will begin on August 10 at TIO Stadium.
