Devotees of Wednesday have devoured the first four episodes of the second season on Netflix, which saw the introduction of several fresh faces.

Among them is Owen Painter, who portrays Slurp, a brain-munching zombie resurrected by Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez). Slurp causes chaos in the show, repeatedly escaping and preying on others to revert to his original state.

Painter shared insights into his unforgettable audition and the extraordinary efforts he made to embody Slurp. While discussing his peculiar audition tape with Netflix's Tudum, he remarked: "My poor neighbours, seriously. I was like flopping around on the floor for a couple of months."

He added: "I was just trying to come up with gags around, like, your nervous system not being about to work right."

In another chat, he expressed his initial thrill at snagging such an eccentric character: "It was just fun to play."

He elaborated: "I really would try my hardest to actually feel like this creature that the kids had to deal with - like this dog that was coming off the leash.

"And it was nice to try and get a jump out of them whenever I could."

Painter is also recognised for his portrayal of a young Lucas in Tiny Beautiful Things and for a cameo in The Handmaid's Tale as Jaden in a 2022 episode.

The actor is barely recognisable sans the makeup and prosthetics that transform him into Slurp, with the character seemingly set to play a pivotal part.

He boasts substantial connections to Nevermore and has referred to ex-science teacher Augustus Stonehurst as an "old friend".

Eager fans will be on tenterhooks until September 3 when part two is released to discover just how significant his role is.

Wednesday season 2 part 1 is currently streaming on Netflix, with part 2 slated for release on September 3.
