The incident occurred in the early hours when two goods trains, moving in opposite directions, were crossing each other between Chandil and Nimdih stations. According to initial reports, a few wagons from one of the trains derailed and collided with the middle section of the other train, causing some of its wagons to derail as well. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Severe Impact on Train Movement
The derailment significantly disrupted services on both up and down lines in the Chandil-Gunda Bihar section, said Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Adra Division) Vikash Kumar. Restoration work is underway, and officials are working to resume operations at the earliest. Several express and passenger trains have been cancelled, diverted, or short-terminated due to the accident.

The following express trains have been cancelled:

• 20897/20898 Howrah-Ranchi-Howrah Vande Bharat Express


• 20894 Patna-Tatanagar Vande Bharat Express


• 18183 Tatanagar-Buxar Express


• 13301/13302 Dhanbad-Tatanagar-Dhanbad Express


• 28181/28182 Tatanagar-Katihar-Tatanagar Express

Diversions

• Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (via Sambalpur) will operate via Jharsuguda-Rourkela-Nuagaon-Hatia-Bokaro Steel City-Rajabera.


• Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Purushottam Express will be diverted via Hijli-Modinagar-Adra-Bhojudih-Gomoh.

Other Service Changes
Three MEMU passenger trains, including Tata-Asansol and Tata-Hatia, will remain cancelled for the day. The LTT-Howrah Express, stranded between Chandil and Kandra, will be short-terminated and rerouted via Tata-Kharagpur-Howrah.
Officials assured that efforts are in full swing to restore normal train movement in the affected section.
