This year's Community Shield will not be shown on free-to-air TV, with neither BBC or ITV airing the match. Liverpool, the reigning Premier League champions, will face FA Cup winners Crystal Palace under the Wembley arch. The fixture provides the two clubs with the opportunity to begin their campaign by winning a trophy, albeit a minor one.
The match is usually available to watch for free, with ITV having a long-standing association with the Community Shield. It has also been shown on the BBC in previous years, giving fans the chance to watch it without paying for a subscription service. However, things have changed for this season.
Express Sport looks at why the Community Shield will not be shown on a free-to-air channel...
Why is the Community Shield not on TV?The match is not being shown on terrestrial channels because it has been put behind a paywall. It will be aired exclusively live on TNT Sports and discovery+, with coverage starting at 2pm and ending at around 6pm.
The change in broadcasters was confirmed by the Football Association in a statement issued ahead of this weekend's clash.
"The 2025 FA Community Shield match will be contested by the 2024-25 Emirates FA Cup winners, Crystal Palace, and 2024-25 Premier League champions, Liverpool," the statement read.
"The game will take place at Wembley Stadium connected by EE on Sunday 10 August. It will be broadcast live and exclusively on TNT Sports 1, with kick-off at 3pm BST."
Community Shield team newsThe likes of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong could make their competitive debuts for Liverpool today. Hugo Ekitike is also in contention to start but Milos Kerkez might have to settle for a place on the bench.
Rio Ngumoha has caught the eye in pre-season and could also be involved for the Reds in some capacity this afternoon. Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley will not be in the squad as they continue to recover from injury.
Crystal Palace, meanwhile, will be unable to call upon four players with Eddie Nketiah, Cheick Doucoure, Caleb Kporha and Matheus Franca all sidelined.
Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze have been linked with moves away from Selhurst Park throughout the entire summer window. However, it would be a surprise if either player is left out of the starting line-up against Liverpool.
