Australia cricket team batsman Glenn Maxwell is just not able to shake off chains of poor form and this may eventually result in the end of his IPL career. Except for some fine knocks in BBL 2024/25 and MLC 2025, the middle-order batsman has played horribly with the bat in both T20Is and T20s. If his abysmal performance with the bat follows, his present-day IPL franchise Punjab Kings – who acquired him for Rs 4.20 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction – won't hesitate before releasing him before the mini-auction scheduled later this year.

Maxwell's recent failure in T20I occurred in the AUS vs SA 1st T20I match held in Darwin on Sunday. Batted at number 7, the 'Big Show' could muster only 1 run before being dismissed by Senuran Muthuswamy. Before this game, he was involved in the series against West Indies that consisted of five matches. There as well, Maxwell was not able to perform well, scoring 11, 12, 20, 47 and 0.

In the past year, Maxwell has not managed to score a single half-century in any format, with a top score of just 47 and an average of 15.62 in white-ball cricket. While his T20 performances have been marginally better, they remain highly inconsistent.

Maxwell in 37 T20s in the past 12 months has 780 runs at a rate of 27.85 with a top score of an unbeaten 106-run innings which was achieved in MLC 2025. He has managed to score more than 50 runs on just 3 out of 33 occasions during this time, though he remained unbeaten each time he crosses the half-century mark.

Speaking of his performance in IPL, Maxwell was released by RCB post-IPL 2024 when he could score only 52 runs in 10 games. In spite of his dismal form, PBKS acquired him in the mega auction, and went on to disappoint the team. Maxwell scored 48 runs in 7 games in IPL 2025 before a finger injury rescued him from the blues and prevented him from participating further in the tournament.

If Maxwell's poor performance does not improve, PBKS will not think twice before letting him go, open their purse and search for another consistent talent in their batting line-up.
