A much-loved high street discount outlet store is set to close three month branches - with 25 more already earmarked for closure. The Original Factory Shop (TOFS) has around 185 branches across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

But like many retail firms, such as Poundland, and River Island, TOFS had been going through restructuring as part of a huge cost-saving move which had led to stores having to close down. The latest branches which will no longer be serving customers are based in Wales, Shropshire and Scotland.

TOFS was bought by private equity firm Modella Capital in February, which also recently acquired Hobbycraft and WHSmith's. As part of cost saving measures, Modella entered into negotiations on rent for 88 TOFS stores. A spokesperson for TOFS previously told The Press and Journal newspaper that a "number of loss-making stores would have to close" during the restructuring.

The Sun reports one of three stores set to close is Caldicot in Wales. On the Facebook page for the store, the branch said in a post on August 1: "Final reductions in store with at least 50% off everything in store!!! Only 6 days left so come and grab a bargain while you can!!!"

In reply one customer said: "Oh no, I'm gutted. I absolutely love this shop so many bargains. Very sad."

Another added: "I'm sorry to hear you're closing down. A loss for Caldicot with another shop closing down. Hopefully your staff will get new jobs quickly."

The next store to announce it was closing was in Market Drayton, Shropshire, which posted on the branch Facebook page on August 4: "Sadly our store is closing down - Everything now reduced and must go."

One local shopper wrote in response: "Gutted for you guys, will definitely miss shopping with you. Good Luck with your future plans."

Someone else noted: "Such a shame for our town...another retailer gone. I bet it'll be another Turkish barbers."

Finally the TOFS store in Nairn, Scotland, was the third to break the news on social media.

It posted on Facebook on August 4: "We would like to take this time to thank all of our customers at Nairn store. We have loved serving you and being part of the community for the last 15 months.

"We hope you will pop in to see us before we close. Up to 30% off starts today. Please can we ask that you be respectful to staff as we are all devastated that our store is closing."

The branch signed off the sad news with "Team Nairn".

In response, a customer wrote: "So sorry to hear this. Sending very best wishes to the whole team. We will be sad to see you go."
