In such a situation, let us know how the candidates get the posts of IAS, IFS, and IPS after passing all the stages of the examination.

In UPSC CSE 2024, Shakti Dubey got the first rank across the country, and Harshita Goyal got the second rank. Both had chosen the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). They have been allotted IAS posts. Candidates up to the top 20 ranks have been allotted IAS posts. At the same time, B Sivachandran, who got the 23rd rank, has been allotted the IPS. Although he would have gotten the IAS post, he had chosen IPS.

UPSC CSE 2024 Cadre Allocation: How to get an IAS-IPS post?

Candidates who are successful in the UPSC Civil Services Interview are allotted posts like IAS, IPS, and IFS on the basis of their rank and their preference. If the rank of the candidate is up to the top 50, then there is a greater chance of getting the desired post. Candidates who are successful in the Mains exam have to fill out the DAF 2 form issued by the Union Public Service Commission before the interview, in which they have to fill out their preference of the post based on their choice.

After being successful in the interview, the post is allotted to them on the basis of their preference and rank. If a candidate has filled out his preference for IAS in the form and his rank is low, then he is not given the post of IAS. On the other hand, if a candidate has a good rank and has chosen IPS or IFS instead of IAS, then he is given the post based on his preference.
