Bengaluru Namma Metro Update: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on Tuesday stated that the total ridership of Namma Metro crossed one million for the first time on Monday. The officials stated that the ridership witnessed a significant surge due to the operation of the Yellow Line. The authority stated that the yellow line passes through some of the key areas of the city, providing major relief to the commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing the traffic congestion.

While providing details, the authority stated that a total of 1,048,031 commuters took metro rides on Monday. The previous highest ridership was recorded on June 4, when 966,732 people used metro services during the victory celebration of RCB. The yellow line is likely to provide great relief to the thousands of IT employees, as the line connects Electronic City to several regions. The authority stated that thousands of people travelled on the first day despite only three trains operating every 25 minutes on the Yellow line.

BMRCL Chief Public Relations Officer BL Yashavanth Chavan stated that while the passengers are excited in the initial days, the usual numbers will be registered after a few weeks. "We usually see a spike in passenger numbers during the initial days of a new line. We'll have to evaluate traffic patterns for several weeks to arrive at a more accurate number," Chavan was quoted as saying by the Deccan Herald.
