The Department for Work and Pensions has warned that benefit payments may be disrupted for millions by the August Bank Holiday, which is on the 25th.
In 2025, England and Wales have eight bank holidays. When a Bank Holiday falls on a weekend, a "substitute" weekday, usually the following Monday, becomes a Bank Holiday. Many businesses, including benefit offices, jobcentres, and banks, close on bank holidays. This also results in changes to payment dates for many claimants. This will happen later this month. Benefitsdue on that date, including the State Pension, should instead be deposited into accounts on Friday, August 22, reports the Liverpool Echo.
The affected benefits include:
Universal Credit
State pension
Pension credit
Child benefit
Disability living allowance
Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
Attendance allowance
Carer's allowance
Employment support allowance
Income support
Jobseeker's allowance
The same applies to the State Pension, which is typically paid directly into your bank account every four weeks. The exact day you receive it corresponds to the last two digits of your National Insurance (NI) number.
Here's when you should be paid based on those numbers:
00 to 19: Monday
20 to 39: Tuesday
40 to 59: Wednesday
60 to 79: Thursday
80 to 99: Friday
However, due to the change in dates, the money will need to last longer than previous months, as it's being paid earlier.
If you were expecting your benefits but they haven't arrived, you should contact the Department for Work and Pensions on 0800 328 5644. They are closed on Bank Holidays but open on the days before and after.
