Janmashtami Cake Cutting: Sri Krishna Janmashtami is considered a very important festival in Hinduism, which is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. This year this holy festival will be celebrated on 16th August. On this day, devotees do sixteen adornments of Lord Krishna, decorate him with beautiful clothes, jewelry, and flowers, and offer special worship and bhog. Nowadays, many people also celebrate Shri Krishna's birthday by cutting a cake on this day. But often the question arises whether this is right from the traditional point of view? On this subject, Saint Premanand Ji Maharaj has given his clear opinion and guided. Let's know what Premanand Ji Maharaj said on this...

Is it right to cut a cake on Janmashtami or not?

Premanand Maharaj, who inspires devotees with his discourses in Vrindavan Dham, also guides people on social media. Recently, one of his videos has become quite viral on social media, in which a devotee asked the same question, whether it is right to celebrate Thakur ji's birthday by cutting a cake on Janmashtami or not?

Premanand Maharaj's Viewpoint

On this question, Premanand Ji Maharaj said that most bakeries make both egg-containing and egg-free cakes. In such a case, purity is not guaranteed. It is not appropriate to use such cakes in worship. He said that people who are unaware of religious rituals choose the methods according to their convenience. But no such substance should be used in the offering which is abhakshaya (forbidden according to religious scriptures).

Satvik Bhog

Premanand Maharaj says that only sattvik bhog should be offered to God on Janmashtami. He said that if ghee is applied on a roti at home and offered with devotion, then Shri Krishna will be pleased. Prasad made at home in worship, such as panchamrit, makhan-mishri, halwa, puri, laddu or other traditional dishes, is considered more acceptable.

Premanand Ji Maharaj also said that if you really want to celebrate Janmashtami like a festival, then come to Vrindavan and celebrate it. Thus, instead of cutting a cake on Janmashtami, celebrating the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna with traditional and satvik offerings is considered religiously correct.
