Janmashtami 2025: The festival of Janmashtami is considered very important in Hinduism. Every year devotees celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna with great joy and gaiety. Shri Krishna is considered the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who was born in the Rohini Nakshatra on the Ashtami date of the Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month in the Dwapar era. On this day special decorations, tableaux and bhajan-kirtans are organized in temples.
According to Drik Panchang, in the year 2025, the festival of Shri Krishna Janmashtami will be celebrated on both August 15 and 16. Ashtami Tithi will start from 11:49 pm on August 15 and will remain till 09:34 pm on August 16. At the same time, Rohini Nakshatra will start from August 17 and will remain till August 18. For this reason, this year fast will be kept for two days.
In Hinduism, saints and saints celebrate the festival of Janmashtami with deep devotion and penance. They keep fast in disrespect and remain absorbed in devotion to Shri Krishna throughout the day. At midnight at 12 o’clock, the birth of Lord Krishna is celebrated. During this time, the idol is anointed, new clothes are worn and aarti is done by swinging. Only after this, saints and saints pass the fast.
Sadhus and saints are followers of Smarta sect. In ancient texts like Dharmasindhu and Decision Sindhu, there are clear rules for them to celebrate Janmashtami. Sadhus and saints celebrate the festival on Ashtami Tithi, whether there is a coincidence of Rohini Nakshatra or not. For them, the time of birth of God is the extreme moment of the festival.
The householders are usually associated with the Vaishnava sect and they celebrate the festival of Janmashtami in the coincidence of Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra. Many times this coincidence is formed on the same day and many times the next day. This coincidence is not being made in the year 2025, so the householders will celebrate Janmashtami on 16 August.
The householders decorate the tableaux in the house and temples along with the fast, perform bhajan-kirtan and celebrate the birth anniversary of God on midnight. The next day of Janmashtami, the festival of ‘Dahi-Handi’ is celebrated with pomp, in which matki burst competitions are held.
This year, Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra are not being combined. Ashtami Tithi will be on 15-16 August, while Rohini Nakshatra will start from August 17. For this reason, saints and saints and householders will celebrate this festival on different days.
