The M40 northbound was closed after a major crash caused a vehicle to overturn. Long queues of traffic were reportedly building in the area between junctions 10 and 11.

National Highways in an earlier post on X: "The M40 in Oxfordshire is now CLOSED northbound between J10 (Ardley) and J11 (Banbury). This is due to a collision involving a vehicle which has left the road and come to rest on its roof. All emergency services are on scene."

A further update at 2.28pm, said the M40 in Oxfordshire was open northbound between the two junctions.

However, it added that "1 lane (of 3) remains closed at this time whilst emergency services remain on the scene".

"There's a 20 minute delay and 4 miles of congestion on approach," it said.

Express.co.uk has approached the South Central Ambulance Service for comment via email.
