There is a lot of uproar in Delhi right now regarding stray dogs. Dog lovers have come out on the streets to save them. Let us tell you how many people are killed by stray dogs every day.

At this time, a different kind of battle is being witnessed in Delhi regarding dogs. There is one side which wants to remove dogs from the streets of Delhi, while the other side is fighting for the dogs by coming on the streets against the decision of the court. Those who support the decision of the court say that these dogs have made the lives of people miserable, while dog lovers say that dogs also have rights, they should not be picked up and thrown out just like that. The government needs to take some appropriate steps for them. Amidst these protests and support, let us tell you how many people are being made victims of dogs on the streets every day.

How many people hunt every day?

In Delhi, children and youngsters are the biggest victims of dog attacks. According to statistics, on an average, more than 1500 people are visiting hospitals for treatment after being bitten by dogs. In Safdarjung Hospital alone, around 700-800 people visit for vaccination every day. At the same time, in other hospitals of Delhi, 100-150 patients visit daily for treatment of new and old cases of dog bites.

So many patients come for treatment every day

Dr. Debashish Parmar, in-charge of the Anti-Rabies Vaccination Center of RML Hospital, said that 150-200 patients come to him every day, most of whom are children and young people below 14 years of age. He said that the World Health Organization has fixed three categories for vaccination in case of dog bites. First, if the dog only licks with its tongue, then there is no need for vaccine. Second, if the bite causes a scratch or mark on the skin, then anti-rabies vaccination is given. Third, if the bite causes bleeding and a wound is formed, then anti-rabies serum is also applied along with the vaccine.

In how many days are antibodies formed?

According to him, after vaccination, it takes 8-10 days for antibodies to form in the body to protect against infection. Whereas, serum is applied directly to the wound and its effect is immediate. Serum is given only once, while four doses of vaccine are necessary. The first dose is given from zero to one day, the second in three days, the third in seven days and the last in 28 days. It is necessary to complete all the doses, otherwise the vaccination will be considered incomplete and the risk of rabies will remain. If someone gets rabies, his death is certain.

When is vaccine most necessary?

He also clarified that vaccination is mandatory even in case of a pet dog bite. Many people believe that if the dog has been vaccinated then there is no danger, but it is not necessary that the vaccine is completely effective. Its quality and immunity capacity also matter. Therefore, 100 percent vaccination should be done even in case of a pet dog bite.
