A mother was left in shock after a live snake fell out of her daughter's new toy box during her third birthday celebrations. Jennifer Baker, 30, from Norris Green, Liverpool, initially thought it was a prank by one of her sons when a bright orange snake tumbled out of the box that had contained her daughter's Peppa Pig car gift on Sunday (August 10).

Jennifer had unboxed the present earlier that day and placed the seemingly empty cardboard box atop her oven, intending to recycle it later. She then carried on with her day.

She recalled: "I did what I needed to do then later I went to pick the box up and a snake fell out of it. I shouted to the kids, I have two boys, 'whose is this?' I thought it was a toy snake but I didn't recognise it as being either of theirs.

"I was staring at this snake and then all of a sudden its tongue started moving. I started screaming 'it's real, it's a real snake'. My mum came running into the kitchen.

"It was trying to wrap itself around my arm as we were trying to get it back into the empty cardboard box. We finally got it into the box.", reports The Liverpool Echo.

The mum expressed her utter disbelief after finding the snake on her oven. She added: "I felt the weight of it fall out of the box. I just kept thinking 'how has a snake got into my kitchen?'".

Ironically, Jennifer had bought a new rabbit for her daughter that very day and jokingly referred to herself as Doctor Dolittle due to the "amount of animals" she seemed to have in her home.

She recounted: "I was sorting the new rabbit out and my daughter was bringing the cat from next door into my house. I'd said 'am I Doctor Dolittle with all these pets?' Then next thing I go into my kitchen to find a snake on top of my cooker."

Jennifer later discovered that the snake belonged to a neighbour. She confirmed it has now been returned to its rightful owner.
