The Kamakshipalya Police arrested seven accused, including popular Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and Pavitra Gowda, in the Renukaswamy murder case on Thursday evening, after the Supreme Court cancelled their bail in the morning.
The police team led by DCP Girish swung into action soon after the SC verdict was out.
Five Accused, Darshan (Accused No.2), Pavitra (A1), Nagaraju R., Pradoosh S. Rao and Laksman M. Custody from Chitradurga.
All seven will be produced before the judge at the judge’s residence in Koramangala after the medical examination, late in the evening.
The police arrested him from his Bengaluru residence in Hosakerehalli and took him to the Annapurneshwari Nagar police station. Earlier on Thursday, there were reports that said the actor was spotted at the Punajanur check post at the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border in his four-wheeler.
Earlier in the day, Pavitra Gowda was taken into custody from her Bengaluru residence.
According to sources, the actor wanted to evade arrest and surrender in court, but the police got information about his stay and arrested him.
Darshan was arrested on June 11 last year from Mysuru after the police named him as an accused along with 16 others in the chargesheet. He was granted a six-week interim bail on medical grounds on October 30, 2024, after he had spent 131 days in jail.
The Supreme Court has now cancelled the regular bail granted to Darshan by the Karnataka High Court on December 13, 2024.
The apex court cancelled the bail granted to the actor saying, “We considered everything. The grant of bail as well as cancellation. It is evident that the high court order suffers from serious infirmities, instead it reflects a mechanical exercise and moreover, the high court undertook examination at pre-trial stage.”
The judgement came on an appeal filed by the Karnataka government against the High Court’s December 13, 2024, order of bail to Darshan and the co-accused.
“The well-founded allegations, coupled with forensic evidence re-enforce the cancellation of bail, the bail grant to the petitioner cancelled,” the bench said.
