Bengaluru: A mysterious blast in a crowded housing complex at Chinnayyana Palya in Wilson Garden killed a 10-year-old boy, while injuring nine others and left 13 houses completely damaged.

The deceased has been identified as Mubarak, who was sleeping next to the wall that collapsed on him. Three other people, including 60 year old Sarasamma, Prakash and Savitha are seriously injured, while six more people sustained minor injuries.

Since no fire was witnessed during the blast, the police prima-facie ruled out the gas cylinder being the reason behind the blast. The FSL and police are trying to ascertain the reason behind the blast.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar visited the spot . The government has announced Rs five lakh compensation to the family members of Mubarak, who was killed in the blast and promised to reconstruct the damaged houses.

The incident took place at around 8 am. Most of the people living in the housing complex are either labourers or vendors, who go out to work early. The blast took place at the house of Kasturamma, who had left for work at around 6 am. Her first floor house has been completely shattered and adjacent walls around her house also came down. The impact of the blast was so high that the people in the entire area ran out of the house, thinking that it was an earthquake.

Meanwhile, nine people were injured. The hands of Sarasamma are completely crushed, while the hands and legs of another girl are also severely damaged. They have been admitted to Sanjay Gandhi hospital.

According to police, most of the people living in that housing complex, which has over 35 small houses, work in nearby tiles and marble outlets. Most of these outlets use chemicals for fine cutting of tiles and marbles, which are volatile in nature. A few years ago, there was a blast in the same area due to high pressure on a packet containing these chemicals. The police are looking in that angle also.
