AS Roma remain confident of securing Jadon Sancho on a loan deal from Manchester United this summer, football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said on Friday.

According to Romano, the Serie A club is positive about landing the English winger in the Italian capital, as Manchester United have not received an offer to top their bid so far. The 25-year-old former Borussia Dortmund player’s representatives have started holding talks regarding his personal terms with AS Roma, Fabrizio’s X post on Friday afternoon said.

“AS Roma confident to get green light from Manchester United for Jadon Sancho deal. £20m loan with obligation bid sent yesterday seen as the best proposal received by United for the English winger so far. Jadon’s camp also in direct talks with Roma over salary,” Romano’s post read.

Sancho joined Manchester United in 2021 for a reported transfer fee of £73 million (€85 million). United are currently undergoing a squad overhaul and are looking to sell multiple players to fund new recruitment. Sancho is clearly not in manager Ruben Amorim’s plans.

Sancho, who spent last season on loan at Chelsea, is in good shape ahead of the summer transfer window but remains unsettled at the Theatre of Dreams despite Ruben Amorim replacing Erik ten Hag as manager. Following a fallout with the Dutch manager, Sancho’s refusal to apologise led to him becoming a pariah within the squad. He was subsequently banished, first to Borussia Dortmund and then to Chelsea, on loan moves. Chelsea, however, opted not to activate the buy option attached to his loan deal, despite his two goals and five assists in the UEFA Conference League.

In early July, it was reported that United was expecting bidders to pay around £25 million for Sancho. Since then, nobody has come forward with any concrete bids, and Roma’s loan deal is the best they have got after a rumoured bid from Juventus never materialised.

His initial salary at Old Trafford was said to be around £250,000 per week. His contract is set to expire next summer, with the club having an option to extend it. However, it seems unlikely that the Red Devils will do so, given his lack of consistency.
