Thane: Ghodbunder Road in Thane is crucial for access, providing links to Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai, Virar, Borivali, and Dahisar. Scheduled repair work originally slated for August 15-18 has been delayed because of ongoing rain and anticipated holiday traffic jams, causing problems for travelers since this route often forms potholes, particularly during the monsoon season.

The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation planned to carry out asphalt resurfacing on the Gaimukh Ghat Road segment, necessitating major traffic diversions, including restrictions on heavy vehicles and alternative routes through Bhiwandi-Kalher, Mumbai-Nashik Highway, and Chinchoti.

Nonetheless, these distractions have now been called off. The delay in repairs was required due to August 15 being Independence Day, leading to a long weekend that heightened traffic. The India Meteorological Department released a yellow alert on August 15, succeeded by an orange alert lasting until August 19, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall, which could exacerbate the delays.

Officials have not yet revealed a new timeline for the repair tasks. Following the area inspection, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ordered prompt actions to address significant traffic jams.

The strategy includes eliminating the affected road section, applying grouting with WBM, installing asphalt, and utilising mastication methods to avoid repeated potholes. With the Deputy Chief Minister were Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, Thane District Collector Dr. Shrikant Panchal, and several other officials.

Considering the importance of Ghodbunder Road as a connection between the Eastern and Western Express Highways and its function in enabling traffic among Mumbai, Thane, and Gujarat, tackling these concerns is crucial for the safety and movement of commuters.
