Incident Overview

On Saturday, an Indigo flight arriving from Bangkok encountered an incident upon landing at Mumbai Airport, where the rear section of the aircraft made contact with the ground. This prompted the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to initiate an investigation into the matter, as reported by sources.

Both pilots of the Airbus A321 Neo have been removed from duty pending the outcome of the investigation.

An Indigo spokesperson stated, "Due to adverse weather conditions on August 16, the rear of the Airbus A321 struck the runway while attempting to land in Mumbai."

Flight Details

According to the flight tracking website FlightRadar24.com, the airline's flight 6E 1060 departed Bangkok at 12:12 AM local time, later than its scheduled departure of 11:40 PM. The flight ultimately landed in Mumbai at 3:04 AM, which was delayed from its planned arrival of 2:50 AM.

The airline confirmed that the aircraft attempted to land twice before successfully touching down. A senior official from the DGCA mentioned, "We will conduct a thorough investigation into this incident."

Weather Conditions

The India Meteorological Department reported that over 200 mm of rain fell in various parts of Mumbai between 8:30 AM on Friday and 5:30 AM on Saturday.

Sources indicated that between midnight and 6 AM on Saturday, a total of 15 aircraft, including the Indigo flight that experienced the incident, had to attempt landing again at Mumbai Airport.

Operational Adjustments

Additionally, one flight each from Air India and Indigo was rerouted to other airports before eventually landing back in Mumbai.

Indigo stated that they would adhere to standard protocols and ensure all necessary inspections, repairs, and regulatory approvals are completed before resuming operations.
