Lucknow gomtinagar railway station: Gomtinagar railway station of Lucknow has now completely changed for passengers. Prepared at a cost of about Rs 390 crore, this station is emerging as a multipurpose transport hub, not just a railway station. With the concept of modern design, high-tech security and green building, it is going to become the first station in North India to provide facilities like airport.
More than 96% of this station under the supervision of Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA) has been completed and preparations are being made to open it to the general public by the end of August 2025. So far, only Chandigarh and Gomtinagar are the stations in the country where the PPP model has been implemented. But the station equipped with such modern facilities is going to give passengers experience for the first time in the country.
Two major commercial towers are built in the station premises, which will have 77 outlets. Here passengers will get the goods of every need from branded clothes, shoes, food and food easily.
Parking has been made at two levels to get rid of traffic jams around the station. Also, a 458 meter long flyover has been prepared, so that passengers will be able to reach the first floor of the station directly.
Arrangements like airport have been made for the safety of passengers at the station.
Gomtinagar station has been developed on the lines of Green Building. Lighting and many other services will be run from the solar panel installed on the roof. This will reduce electricity expenditure and will also benefit the environment.
At present, 19 trains operate from here, but the number will increase further in the coming time. Recently, the introduction of four new Amrit Bharat Express trains has increased the importance of the station. According to DRM Gaurav Aggarwal, premium trains like Shatabdi, Rajdhani, Vande Bharat and Tejas can also be started from here.
In the recent meeting of the Railway Board, the representative of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has demanded the name of the station to be named "Pandit Atal Bihari Vajpayee Gomtinagar Station", calling it the dream of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The department is considering this proposal and a decision may be taken soon.
Works like painting, wiring and fitting at the station are in the final stages. Testing of escalator and lift is also almost complete. Officials say that after completion of preparations for the inauguration, it will be opened to passengers by the end of August 2025.
