'Dexter: Original Sin' CANCELS plans for season 2; Focus shifts to 'Dexter: Resurrection'
' Dexter: Original Sin ' will not be moving forward with a second season. However, according to the latest report, the Dexter franchise itself remains active, with development on ' Dexter: Resurrection ' which is already underway.
According to Variety, Showtime had initially announced a season two renewal for 'Original Sin' back in April, just six weeks after its ten-episode first season concluded. But insiders revealed that the project had been on hold since production wrapped, with no concrete timeline ever established for a continuation. The network has now shifted its focus to 'Dexter: Resurrection', with a writers’ room expected to open soon.
The decision was reportedly made to concentrate on 'Resurrection', which carries on the current story of Dexter (Michael C. Hall) from the original 2006–13 series and the 2021–22 follow-up ' Dexter: New Blood '.
Although season 2 has not yet received official approval, sources tell THR that a writers' room for a possible second season of 'Resurrection' is about to open with the goal of a renewal. For both the linear Showtime channel and Paramount + Premium, the series has been doing well. According to Paramount, the August 15 episode attracted the show's biggest audience of the season, with 3.1 million viewers during the first weekend and 4.4 million after seven days.
Additionally, according to sources, Paramount is still committed to the 'Dexter' franchise but is focusing its energies on the events of Resurrection rather than extending the character's life in a follow-up prequel series.
