The foundation of this project was laid by the then Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in 2007. But due to lack of budget and political confusion, the scheme went into cold storage. Now there is an atmosphere of enthusiasm among the local people due to the green signal from the central government.
The Railway Ministry has approved Rs 477 crore for this project. 67 km long railway line will be laid from this amount, bridges will be constructed and stations will be given modern form. After the completion of the construction work, this railway line will prove to be a boon for farmers, traders and passengers. The project was resumed with the frequent efforts of local MP Vijay Kumar Dubey and MLA Vivekananda Pandey. The two leaders were strongly welcomed at the civil reception held in Chitouni.
The new railway line will strengthen the connectivity of Kushinagar, Tamkuhi and surrounding areas. The transport of farmers' products will be ease, which will promote business. Also, new employment opportunities will be created for local youth. Kushinagar is a major pilgrimage center of Buddhism, where thousands of tourists from India and abroad arrive every year.
