New Delhi: Ganesh Chaturthi festival will be celebrated on August 27, 2025, Wednesday. Crores of people are wondering whether the Indian stock market and banks will observe a holiday or remain closed for the occasion.

The stock market will remain closed on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, i.e. Wednesday (August 27). The markets will remain open for only four days this week. The holiday list released by National Stock Exchange (NSE) mentions that the markets will observe a holiday to mark the birth of Lord Ganesh.

The stock exchanges – BSE and NSE will remain closed on August 27, August 30 (Saturday) and August 31 (Sunday) this week.

After the Ganesh Chaturthi holiday, the stock markets will remain closed for remaining holidays in the year are as follows:

• October 2, 2025: Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti/Dussehra
• October 21, 2025: Diwali Laxmi Pujan
• October 22, 2025: Balipratipada
• November 5, 2025: Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev
• December 25, 2025: Christmas

Trading on the equities segment takes place from Monday to Friday as the exchanges observe holiday on Saturdays and Sundays and holidays declared in advance.

Bank Holidays

The banks will remain closed on August 27, 2025 for Ganesh Chaturthi/Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha)/Varasiddhi Vinayaka Vrata/Ganesh Puja/Vinayakar Chathurthi in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji and Vijayawada.

The banks will observe a holiday on August 28 for Ganesh Chaturthi (2nd Day)/Nuakhai. The RBI list informs that the banks will remain closed in Bhubaneswar and Panaji.
