While the Mohanlal and Malavika Mohanan starrer ' Hridayapoorvam ' has been celebrated for reuniting legendary actor with the veteran filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad after nearly a decade, the film also found itself in the middle of social media criticism. The reason – Malavika, who is 32, plays the female lead opposite Mohanlal, who is 65. The 33-year age gap sparked online debates, but the actress has now broken her silence, dismissing the backlash as immature and urging audiences to hold judgment until the film arrives in theatres.

Malavika says It’s childish to comment without context
In a recent interview with Ginger Media Entertainments during the film’s promotions, Malavika addressed the criticism directly. "I had responded to one such comment. Passing remarks without knowing the story or script of a film is immature. Let the film release first — if, after watching it, you feel the subject is unusual, then share your opinion. That’s fair. Everyone is entitled to their views, but commenting without any knowledge isn’t right.” she said.
'Hridayapoorvam isn’t a typical love story
The actress also clarified that her role in 'Hridayapoorvam' doesn’t fall into the usual love-interest mold. "The story begins when two complete strangers cross paths unexpectedly at a certain point in their lives, and what unfolds from there is not your usual love story.” Malavika explained, adding that the audience will understand the dynamics better once they watch the film.
Malavika’s earlier clap-back to trolls
This isn’t the first time Malavika has faced such remarks. Back in March, when she shared behind-the-scenes moments from the film, a user commented: “65 year old man playing the love interest of a 30 year old. What is with these veteran actors desperate to play roles that don’t fit their ages?” Malavika quickly hit back, writing: “Who told you it’s a love interest? Stop judging people and a film with your half baked baseless assumptions.”
Her reply drew strong support from her followers. One fan wrote: “Talking like you’ve already read the script,” while another added: “Nonsense! Do u know the script already ah? Grow up!”
Meanwhile, 'Hridayapoorvam' has hit the big screens and is getting decent reviews.
