New Delhi: Volkswagen is preparing to launch its most powerful Golf yet in 2027. As reported by Autocar, the special model will mark the Golf R’s 25th anniversary and serve as a send-off for the pure-petrol era. The Volkswagen Golf is packed with Audi’s famous 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder engine, the same unit that powers the RS3. With nearly 394bhp on offer, this version is set to outpace every Golf before it and highlight Volkswagen’s push towards electrification in the future.

The Volkswagen Golf  is all set to mark an important upgrade from the present Golf R 333, while previously they use VW’s ubiquitous EA888 2,0 liter turbo petrol four, change to 328bhp and 295lb ft, it came up with run out of 394nhp and 354lb ft with 2.5 liter turbo five engine in current RS3.

Specs and Features

To manage the extra power, Volkswagen is expected to add stiffer suspension, reinforced chassis parts, and upgraded brakes. Forged aluminium wheels and semi-slick Bridgestone Potenza Race tyres will help keep weight down and grip high. A reworked seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox with launch control will be fitted, along with Audi’s torque-splitting rear differential for sharper handling and comes with a bigger brake of 357 mm steel disc, along 380 mm carbon ceramics.

Styling changes seen in spy shots include larger bonnet intakes, an aggressive roof spoiler, and a new diffuser. At the rear, quad titanium exhausts with active flaps are expected. Inside, lightweight bucket seats and other weight-saving touches will likely feature.

Powertrain

The new Golf R will swap out the familiar 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine for Audi’s celebrated 2.5-litre five-cylinder. This upgrade boosts output from 328bhp to 394bhp, with torque climbing to 354lb ft. The performance leap should cut the 0 to 62mph sprint to around 3.8 seconds, making it the fastest Golf to date.

Emissions and Engineering Updates

To meet Euro 7 rules due in late 2026, Audi will revise the engine with a new particulate filter, more advanced NOx sensors, and higher-density catalysts. These updates will keep the five-cylinder alive despite tighter emissions standards.

Expected Price and Availability

The special Golf R is expected to be unveiled in 2026, with sales starting in 2027 to coincide with Volkswagen R’s 25th anniversary. Prices have not been confirmed but are likely to sit above the current Golf R 333, reflecting the higher performance and limited-edition status.
