A social media user gained hundreds of thousands of views after claiming an abandoned fridge would be collected more quickly if it had a St Georges Cross painted on it. In recent weeks, Brits have been hanging up British flags as part of an online movement named 'Operation Raise the Colours'. However, flags have been taken down by a number of councils, including Tower Hamlets in east London and Birmingham.
In response, residents across the country have been painting roundabouts, zebra crossings and potholes with the St George's Cross. On TikTok, a user named 'Break The Ice' posted a video of a fridge outside of a home. He claims it had been there for "weeks" as the local council is yet to remove it. The man behind the post said one quick and easy way to get it taken away is by drawing an England flag on it.
"See that fridge freezer, it's been there for weeks. Council won't touch it. Draw an England flag on it, and they'll remove it like that", he can be heard saying in the video.
Other social media users took the comment section of the TikTok, which has amassed over 345,000 views and 1,200 likes in 24 hours, and said: "Paint a St. George's cross on the fridge - it'll definitely get taken away quickly."
Another wrote: "People in Birmingham should put England flags on their rubbish. Draw an England flag on it will remove it just like that."
A third said: "I think I need to do that to mine. Under counter fridge. Need to get some paint and leave it at the end of the road."
The video comes after a pothole vigilante used the St Georges Cross in a bid to get the council's attention to fix them. Ben Thornbury, 20, painted the England flag over potholes in his local area in his latest attempt to get the authorities to do something about the issue.
Mr Thornbury has followed suit of towns across the country which have been flying the St Georges Cross in petition to the removal of the flags in certain areas.
Campaigners attached them as part of an online movement called Operation Raise the Colours. Some of the flags and painted lines have appeared outside hotels used to accommodate migrants.
