Nationwide Building Society has issued an update on a new feature being added to the app. The group's banking app is used by more than six million members, allowing customers to make payments and check their statements.

A recent app update added dark mode to the app, meaning if your phone has dark mode turned on, the colour scheme on the app will change to reflect this. However, some customers have had issues using the new feature. One customer said when they had dark mode on, the app screen was too dark for them to see.

Nationwide told the customer that a new feature would soon be added in the banking app menu, allowing you to toggle dark mode on and off for the app, independently of your device setting. The provider was asked for an update on the rollout of this new function.

A spokesperson said: "Customers will be able to toggle on and off dark mode in the next few weeks. Until then, we would recommend switching between light and dark mode on their mobile phone settings."

Another customer contacted Nationwide over social media to say they disliked the dark blue background used in the dark mode for the Nationwide app. They asked why there was no option to change dark mode on and off within the app.

Nationwide said in response that "this feature is being worked on". The group also directed them to a page on the building society's website, with information about the app and new functions that are soon to be added.

The provider also recently expanded its services adding a new feature that you can activate in the app. Reward Saver customers can now go paperless.

When you change your settings to paperless, all your statements will be displayed online and you will no longer get sent statements in the post. Nationwide said previously: "Account holders can already go into the app and choose to go paperless.

"Over the next couple of weeks, customers using the app will also be encouraged to update their preferences on if they want paperless or not."
