Soon after, all the accused were sent to judicial custody. The court has fixed August 30 for hearing the sentence. ENS Ekka, a resident of Simdega, was a minister in Arjun Munda between 2005 and 2008 and later Madhu Koda.
It is alleged that while misusing the post, he used fake address and sold tribal land on a large scale. The then LRDC of Ranchi Karthik Kumar Prabhat helped him. These deals were done with the connivance of administrative officers and employees.
CBI investigation revealed that between March 2006 and May 2008, land was purchased in various areas in the name of Menon Ekka, wife of Enos Ekka. This includes 22 katthas in Hinu, 12 acres in Ormanjhi, 4 acres in Navari and 9 decimil land in Sirum Toli Mauja of Chutia.
The court found all the CBI allegations correct. The case was heard by CBI Special Public Prosecutor Priyanshu Singh. On the basis of arguments and witnesses in the court, it was proved that the CNT Act has been openly violated in buying and selling land.
Significantly, the Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act, 1908 came into force during the British rule. Its purpose is to protect the land of the tribal community. Under this law, tribal land is prohibited to sell, mortgage or move to non-tribals. Even a tribal cannot sell land to any other tribal outside his police station area.
