Trent Alexander-Arnold has been dropped from England’s squad for the double header with Andorra and Serbia. The Real Madrid star is the big omission along with Jack Grealish who was hoping to be in after his move to Everton.

There was also no place for Kyle Walker who is just four caps short of 100 which the 35-year-old says is his last big career ambition. Walker, 35, has struggled for form and that may explain his absence but he went to Burnley in the summer to ensure he keeps playing in the Premier League.

It is a bigger concern for Alexander-Arnold who has had a difficult start to his time in Spain with Real Madrid. Alexander-Arnold, 26, was left out of the starting line-up for Real Madrid's 3-0 win at Real Oviedo on Sunday.

Alexander-Arnold has always struggled to hold down a regular place with England and this must be seen as a setback although it may be that Tuchel wants to give him a chance to settle down in Spain.

Grealish was hoping to get a recall but that has not come this time despite Tuchel being on record as a big admirer of the forward. Djed Spence is called up with Ben White injured while Elliot Anderson also gets rewarded with a first call-up under Thomas Tuchel.

Spence is being rewarded for his impressive form with Tottenham but his inclusion ahead of Alexander-Arnold and Walker is a big shock. Goalkeeper James Trafford is the third uncapped player in the squad.

Anderson has impressed for Forest and may now get a chance for a World Cup audition while Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton is also called up. Jordan Henderson keeps his place.

Arsenal defender White may well have been in after Tuchel checked on his form but the defender got injured at Manchester United on the opening day and has not recovered in time.

The same goes for Cole Palmer as the Chelsea forward also misses out having suffered an injury in the warm-up at West Ham last Friday.
