Vietnamese automaker Vinfast is all set to make its debut in the Indian market with the launch of its first two electric cars, the VF6 and VF7, on September 6. Both are fully electric SUVs that will compete directly with popular models from Tata Motors, Mahindra, and other EV players in the country. Bookings for these SUVs have already opened, with customers able to reserve one for a token amount of Rs 21,000. What makes this launch even more significant is that Vinfast is locally manufacturing these cars at its plant in Tamil Nadu, where the first VF7 model rolled out earlier this month.
The Vinfast VF6 will come with a 59.6kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor delivering 204bhp and a front-wheel drive system. It promises a driving range of up to 480 km on a single charge. The VF6 will be available in two trims, Earth and Wind, with six exterior color options—Jet Black, Urban Mint, Desat Silver, Zenith Gray, Infinity Black, and Crimson Red. Inside, the Earth variant will feature an all-black theme, while the Wind trim will get a dual-tone Mocha Brown and Black interior.
The larger Vinfast VF7 will be offered in three trims—Earth, Wind, and Sky—with the same exterior color palette as the VF6. It will feature a more powerful 70.8kWh battery pack with both single- and dual-motor configurations. The dual-motor AWD version will deliver 354PS and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds, while offering a range of up to 496 km. Like the VF6, its interiors will vary across trims, with the base version in black and higher trims in dual-tone Mocha Brown and Black.
Both SUVs will be packed with premium features including a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, ventilated seats, dual-zone climate control, head-up display, and a panoramic glass roof. Safety will also be a strong focus, with equipment such as blindspot monitoring, 8 airbags, and Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System).
With their impressive range, modern design, and advanced features, the Vinfast VF6 and VF7 are expected to give strong competition to Indian EV offerings from Tata and Mahindra, as well as international rivals already present in the segment.
