Mumbai: In Vedic astrology, Panchak refers to a five-day phase when the Moon passes through the constellations Dhanishta, Shatabhisha, Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati. These nakshatras are believed to carry unstable and inauspicious energies, making this period unfavourable for auspicious or ceremonial activities. Each month has a Panchak phase lasting five days, and depending on the day it begins, the Panchak carries a different name and specific effects.

In September 2025, Panchak is considered especially significant as it starts on a Saturday, which is regarded as the most unfavourable beginning. Known as Mrityu Panchak, this phase is believed to intensify negative results, bringing possible physical, mental and financial distress. Astrologers advise people to avoid new beginnings, risky activities, travel, or construction work during this period.

When is Panchak in September 2025?

According to the Hindu calendar, Panchak in September 2025 will start on Saturday, 6 September at 11:21 AM and end on Wednesday, 10 September at 4:03 PM. During these five days, people are advised not to begin new projects, travel southwards, install roofs in houses, or carry out wood-related tasks, as these activities are considered inauspicious.

What is Mrityu Panchak?

Since September Panchak begins on a Saturday, it falls under the category of Mrityu Panchak. Scriptures suggest that Panchak starting on a Saturday amplifies inauspicious effects fivefold, potentially causing hardships in health, finances and peace of mind. It is therefore regarded as the most unfavourable Panchak of all.
