Bengal Teacher Scam:West Bengal Teacher SCAM, WB SSC Teacher Fraud has made headlines again. Following the order of the Supreme Court, West Bengal School Services Commission (WB SSC) released the list of 1804 disqualified and 'tainted' candidates. This step was taken to ensure justice in the cash-for-job scam. The list includes roll numbers, serial numbers and names, which are now placed in a public domain.

History of scam and order of Supreme Court

Earlier, on July 14, 2025, SSC teachers, who lost the job after the 2024 decision of the Calcutta High Court, started the protest march 'Nabano Abhiyan' from Howrah to the Bengal Secretariat under the banner of 'Jogya Teachers Shiksha Adhikar Manch'. The Supreme Court of India found that the entire recruitment process had large -scale rigging and cheating. A bench of Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar ordered the TMC government to start a new, transparent selection process.

How many were affected and why this matter is special?

About 25,753 teachers and non-teaching workers in West Bengal were forced to lose their jobs due to this recruitment scam. This case is also serious because it is not only losing confidence in the government education system, but has also caused a huge stir at the political level. The Supreme Court clarified that it was justified to cancel the job due to disturbances in the selection process and the state government would have to review the entire process.

Protests and Nabano Abhiyan

Teachers who lost the job staged a protest against the Mamata Banerjee government several times and demanded justice. Nabanno Protest played an important role in bringing this scam into public attention. This movement raised the question whether such scams can be repeated in future also and how transparent the new recruitment process will be.

What will be ahead?

The Supreme Court directed that the new selection process should be completely transparent and no rigging will be allowed. On April 3, 2025, the court also upheld the Calcutta High Court verdict, in 2016 the recruitment of more than 25,000 teachers and non-teaching staff was canceled by the West Bengal School Services Commission.
